Your guide picks you up at Zandoyo and takes you to Puerto Angelito to begin the adventure. Visitors can usually see dolphins and turtles, and possibly stingrays. Humpback whales can be seen from December through March.

Baby turtle release
One of the most popular Puerto Escondido tours is the release into the ocean of newly-hatched baby sea turtles. Turtle sanctuaries on the coast of Oaxaca help improve the survival rate of the young sea turtles by ensuring that as many as possible make it into the sea. Tour participants are given a brief talk about the behavior and life of different sea turtle species and the incubation process that leads up to their release. There's a chance that the turtle you release will return to that same beach 10 years from now to lay her eggs.
