What’s happening at Zandoyo

With the Fiestas and nicer weather, November is a good month to visit Puerto

October 31, 2022

Since Covid, and with growing international awareness of Puerto Escondido as an attractive tourist destination, there no longer seem to be high and low seasons any more.

December through April used to be the busy months but now we can expect guests at any time. We welcomed Maia from Berlin, Germany, in late October after she fled construction noise in Zicatela. She and her family cut short their stay in another B&B because there was building going on all around them.

But that’s the story all over Puerto Escondido these days. I recently counted 16 construction projects within three blocks of Zandoyo: single family homes and some apartment buildings. However, there is nothing going on close to our home so any noise is rarely noticeable. For us, Bacocho is as quiet as ever.

I have frequently wondered why more visitors don’t come in November. It is usually a great month weather-wise: a bit of rain and cooler temperatures as winter approaches, and pretty quiet.  (Well, historically perhaps.)

It’s also a good month for entertainment. The annual Fiestas de Noviembre bring a variety of events, from a festival of dance and gastronomical fairs to a surf competition to a fishing tournament. Not to mention that the month begins with Day of the Dead celebrations, with a display of calaveras, or skulls, on the Rinconada, among other events.

Gastronomic shows are scheduled at Manzanillo and Zicatela beaches, a week-long artisans’ and painters’ expo takes place at the Agencia Municipal and the annual sailfish tournament will be held at Bahía Principal.

A full schedule can be found at El Sol de Puerto.

Zandoyo news

Elon Musk’s Starlink internet service arrived in Puerto Escondido several months ago and their satellite dishes soon began appearing all over town. Zandoyo was an early adopter.

We have measured speeds of 200 Mbps and higher. Best speeds are available in the ground floor guest rooms and on the pool terraza. (One of a few web developers who stayed with us earlier in the year found that internet speeds were no less impressive in the swimming pool!)

The service has been good until now but we also have a fiber optic connection for backup. It is faster than our previous service but not much more reliable.

What our guests are saying

An excellent place, with exceptional attention. From the moment they welcomed us they were extremely attentive to everything. The breakfasts are exquisite. It is in a very quiet area without any noise, with very good restaurants nearby. If what you are looking for is to disconnect and rest, it is the best option.
